Paramedic School

Here we go again. Just when I thought it would be a great time to give school a rest another opportunity has popped up. The department received the ability to give scholarships to the volunteer fighters which will in turn, help with our retention and training issues. With this scholarship, there were several that enrolled in the paramedic program at Weber State. Because so many signed up, we have the ability to have the class in our station using the state's Polycom system. So I jump on board. After finishing prereqs. these next two semesters, I will be accepted into the program that starts next fall. We will be done December of 2011. A couple of classes more after that, and I will have another associates degree. Going to be an interesting couple of years.

After which, if two of us that are paramedic are on duty, we will be running as a paramedic rescue instead of an ambulance. If everyone who has signed up completes the course, that will give our department 9 paramedics out of 20 CCEMS personnel.

Then, I will be able to walk on water.....

Mother's 80th Birthday

My Mother, Lucy Auger Porter, turned 80 years old on Saturday. A lot of my family was able to get together on Friday evening to celebrate with her. It was fun to get together and enjoy each other's company but mostly great to pay tribute to such a wonderful woman. She has been such a great example to me all my life and I owe so much to her.

Melissa got to be a "present girl" with her cousin Erin for Erin's brother's reception. She was so excited!!! Myles and Melodie Porter are the bride and groom and included are a few other shots of family at the reception.

My baby is growing up so fast. She is officially crawling now. She is 9 1/2 months old. She also sports 2 bottom teeth and is working on the top. She is such a good baby and we all love her so much.

A while ago Melanie made a post of her girls having facials. Melissa has been wanting to do that ever since so when we got some cucumbers she was sure she needed to do it. She wanted to copy them and Sharpay (High School Musical).

My garden

My garden is looking pretty good this year. I am posting a few pictures of it. My peas didn't do too well but I have a lot of carrots. This picture is just some carrots that I thinned out. I have a lot of green tomatoes, I hope some get ripe before they freeze. We also have eaten some corn and I froze 6 bags of it today.

This post is a bit out of order but I am not really great at getting the pictures off my camera and posted. We had a good, quiet 4th of July. The kids wanted to do sparklers but were too anxious and tired to wait until dark but it did provide a good opportunity to take some pictures.

Dallin celebrated his 5th birthday Friday. He has been looking forward to it for a while now. I guess 5 is a pretty monumental year. He will be going to Kindergarten this fall. He loves to play with friends and he loves all electronic games. (I wonder what he would do if he had been born before electricity.)

Melissa and Dallin had Nyah laughing pretty good the other night when I had been taking video with the camera so I captured a little bit of her laughing. Unfortunately the other kids were being pretty loud so they kind of drowned Nyah out.

The Goose Girl

Nibley City has a children's play every year with the celebration of their heritage days. This year they performed The Goose Girl by the Brothers Grimm. Melissa was a cat along with other 7-8 year old girls. They had short practices each day for 2 weeks and performed Thursday and Friday. They performed in the church on Thursday because of rain at setup time and in the outside ampitheater on Friday. She had a lot of fun and is talking about doing it again next year. They ask parents to volunteer to help so I helped a bit with costumes.

I am posting some pictures of the play and I apologize for the poor quality of the video. I just took it with my digital camera and it does not take the best pictures.

Melissa finally lost a top tooth today. She has been wiggling it for several months now but it finally made it out. It has been almost a year since she lost her bottom two teeth. Those top teeth missing are sure more noticeable than the bottom ones.

Here is a photo of the tomatoes that were planted in our garden behind station 161 in Hyrum. You may ask yourself why and when would we have enough time to plant a garden. Two reasons, that station is not really busy and its not a real fire station, just an ambulance house. If you ever feel that you are bored and can't find something entertaining, come spend a few hours here and you will be happy with what you have.
